Step-by-Step Guide: How to Install and Debug CNC Rails

CNC rails are key components for high-precision motion in CNC machine tools, automation equipment, and precision instruments. Proper installation and commissioning not only ensures accurate operation but also extends the life of the guide rails. The following is a detailed guide to installation and commissioning procedures.

1. Check the Linearity and Distortion of the Mounting Surface

Clean and tidy up before inspection; use an oilstone to remove burrs at the intersection of the individual guide rail mounting surfaces.

Checking the Linearity of the Individual Guide Rail Mounting Surface: Place a level on the linear guide mounting surface and move it in sections. The tolerance is 0.010mm/full length; the tolerance for local sections is 0.005mm/300mm. If the accuracy is off, use an oilstone to level it. If the error is excessive, rework should be performed.

Checking the Distortion of the Individual Guide Rail Mounting Surface:

  • Place a marble straightedge on equal-height blocks and place a level in the middle of the level (perpendicular to the linear guide mounting surface).
  • Move the equal-height blocks in three sections to check the distortion of the bed linear guide mounting datum surface. The distortion tolerance is 0.030mm/1000mm; the local tolerance is 0.015mm/1000mm over any 500mm measuring length.
  • If the error is excessive, rework should be performed.

2. Linear Roller Guide Installation

Clean and inspect the linear guide base surface and the bed guide mounting datum surface with alcohol. Apply a small amount of lubricating oil to the bed linear guide mounting surface.

Place the guide base surface against the side surface of the machine tool assembly, align the screw holes, and gently secure the guide rail with the bolts. Ensure that the linear roller guide base surface is in contact with the bed guide mounting datum surface.

Tighten the guide rail side clamps to ensure the guide base surface is firmly against the side of the bed.

Use a torque wrench to tighten the guide rail mounting screws (starting from the center and tightening in a crosswise pattern toward each end). 5) Ensure that the linear guide rail's installation reference surface (mounting base and side base) does not penetrate within 0.02mm of the feeler gauge.

3. Reviewing the Straightness of a Single Linear Guide

Reviewing the horizontal straightness tolerance of a single linear guide rail: 0.012mm/full length; local tolerance: 0.006mm/300mm at any location.

Procedure

  • Place a straightedge on the bed using equal height blocks.
  • Align both ends of one side of the straightedge with zero (using this as a reference), move the slider, and check the linearity of the linear guide rail (tolerance: 0.010mm).
  • If the accuracy is incorrect, loosen the screws securing the linear guide rail and the adjustment block, adjust, and then retighten. If the error is excessive, reprocess and repair.

Reviewing the vertical straightness tolerance of a single linear guide rail:
Procedure:

  • Place a straightedge on the bed using equal height blocks.
  • Use the straightedge as a reference to align both ends of one side, then move the slide to check the linearity of the linear guide (tolerance: 0.010mm).
  • If the accuracy is incorrect, loosen the screws securing the linear guide and the adjustment block to adjust, then retighten. If the error is too large, reprocess and repair.

4. Check the Parallelism of the Two Linear Guides in a set.

Tolerance: 0.010mm.

5. Slide Seat Installation Steps

Place the workbench on the flat surface of the slide, align the mounting screw holes, and gently press.

Place the side of the workbench against the reference surface on the slide side and tighten with the setscrews.

After installation, check that the workbench runs smoothly and flexibly throughout its full travel, without any crawling or blocking. The friction resistance should vary significantly throughout the full travel.

After meeting the above requirements, check that the workbench's running straightness and parallelism meet the requirements. Use an oilstone to carefully clean the worktable and slide mounting surfaces, removing any burrs or stains. Gently screw the mounting screws into the slide mounting holes, but do not tighten them yet.
